The Hampton Soccer Club offers a Referee-in-Training program as a way for interested Club players to gain experience with small sided, 'in-house' games with players from the u7u8 age groups. Training and game-time supervision / mentoring is provided by adult coordinators, adult USSF certified referees and older Club players who are also certified referees.
Usual progression of youth referees within the Hampton Soccer Club:
>> Referee-in-Training Level I - ('RIT') - online, classroom and on-field training to start (6th grade+)
>> RIT shadowing - new RITs work with an existing RIT until comfortable
>> RIT Level II - Assistant Referee ('AR') to a USSF certified referee for u10 in-house games on Saturdays; can still work
Saturday u7u8 games
>> RIT Level II - may work as 'club lines person' (assist the when certified referees are not available - call in / out and
direction only)
>> USSF Certified Referee - Entry level certified referees; United States Soccer Federation certified through online
modules / quizes and 3 hour on-field training; must be 13 years old for in-person class
>> RIT Manager - Certified Referee, 15 years old+ - helps Referee Committee manage and teach the RITs

RIT training sign-up will usually be in the January / February timeframe; RIT classroom training will usually be conducted in late March; the on-field training will be conducted approx. 1 hour before the first game of the Spring season usually in April.

NOTE: Hampton Soccer Club referees will receive a 50% reimbursement towards the USSF $100 certification fee once they have passed the course and refereed 5 Hampton games
NOTE: The Hampton Soccer Club's Referee-in-Training program is intended as an introductory experience for 6th to 8th graders. Children are eligible to become certified USSF referees at age 13. RIT Scheduling preference will be given to those in the 6th to 8th grade range - older (14+), non-USSF-certified will be scheduled as back-ups
